Interview with a Model in Tokyo from the fashion week in Rome to Paris

Hi, I’m Karen Nagasaki, a model in Tokyo.

First, I’d like to talk about myself.

I decided to become a model seriously when I was studying abroad in London. I

had been modeling in Japan a bit, and was interested in fashion, so I got a public

ticket for London Fashion Week. At that time, I was just impressed. Model in

dresses passed right in front of me in a cool way. In an instant, I thought I wanted

to be on the walking side, not the guest side. I still remember this London Fashion

Week runway and this is what made me want to become a show model seriously.

And then, I was at Paris Fashion Week in March this year as you can see the

photos, which is my latest project. My first runway was in Rome and next was in

Milan in September last year. Every show was special for me, different place,

different designers, and different models. But, my passion hasn’t changed. Even if

it gets tough way, I’ll follow through until the end. I’d been dreaming of becoming

a runway model and my strong passion took me to Rome, Milan and Paris.

This is one of my talent. I know how to keep myself motivated and spare no effort. For me, it's people who support me. Especially my family always believe in me and support me. I always think that I want to give back to my family by becoming an international model. Everyone has their own way of self motivation, so knowing the way to encourage yourself is important.

In addition, I have a talent for performing in public. This is similar to Japanese tea ceremony which is my hobby. I think modeling and tea ceremony have a lot in common. Especially, what both have in common is performing in public. It’s required to hide nervous and to keep going even if the unexpected happens or you make a mistake. The key here is tranquility, which means immovable heart and

being calm. I learned a lot how to behave in public through tea ceremony.

Also the thing I often get inspired from the lesson of tea ceremony is the importance of accumulating experiences.

What you have gained over the years is what makes you who you are. No two people behave the same way as you can see the models walking the runway So, I think modeling never ends and there is meaning in continuing it, and the same can be said for tea ceremony.

That’s what makes them so much fun. Being a famous model makes you have many opportunities to meet people all over the world at work. During my fashion week, I met a lot of people from different countries. I really enjoyed communicating them and it was interesting that we grew up in different places, are different ages, speak different languages, but

we were at the same place to make the show successful. We keep in touch with them after the work and I might be able to help them if they’re looking for Asian

models or I’ll guide them if they come to Japan for work or holidays. It could be benefits to know the people in modeling industry.

About Fashion icon, I think many kinds of people, not only famous actress or models but also social media influencers has impacts on trends these days and each

person could be fashion icon for someone. Most people have their own social media accounts like Instagram and we’ve had more chance to see these posts.Which means, it could be the fashion icon for someone. In the end, I’m so honored to have this opportunity for your magazine. I’ll keep myself motivated for my next show and hope to come back your magazine again.

Thank you so much indeed for having me.
